Terry and Clarence Low: Keep Web Content Current

December 27, 2008

What's the most cost-effective way of marketing my company on the Internet during the down economy?

I am optimistic that the market will begin to recover by the second quarter of 2009, steadily improving into the following year. Which means that now is one of the best times to position your business and continue to market to your current clients, as well as to those who realize the value of business marketing.

Keep your Web site content fresh and current — are you offering new products and services? Is there a change to the staff bios or management team? Is the home page clear and easy to move a customer deeper into the site? Are there calls-to-action?

Invest in search engine marketing — from natural search engine optimization to tactical pay-per-click marketing. A small investment here can return significant dividends in your market reach and exposure to new clients.

Consider incorporating video vignettes into your Web site. Short product demo videos or customer testimonials are an effective way to establish a connection with your customers.

My LCD TV doesn't seem as bright or sharp as my son-in-law's LCD TV. I've been told that the parts inside are essentially the same components, and that the manufacturers just stick their brand on them.

While some components of an LCD TV may be manufactured by the same equipment company, such as the panel, other components such as the logic boards and tuner may be different.

Additionally, quality testing and control will vary. For those reasons, image quality and overall experience with a set will be different from one brand to another. In general, I recommend sticking with the more established brands such as Sony, Samsung and Philips.
